Find out how to measure a pet collar

Ensure you get the right size collar for your dog or horse. Check out Zig And Zag Handmade’s helpful guide today. Based in Durham I deliver orders across the UK.

Why the right size matters

Choosing the right size of collar is a must, whether for a dog, horse or any other pet. In addition to ensuring it is comfortable and not too tight, it also helps to ensure the animal’s safety. A collar which is too loose could get tangled, causing stress to the animal. It could also become too loose leading to an escape.

I have put together this handy guide, to help customers before they make a purchase. This is a general guide to measuring, so you may need to make some adjustments depending on your pet’s build.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Zig And Zag Handmade in Langley Moor today.

How to measure

For dogs. I recommend the ‘plus two’ technique. Using a flexible measuring tape, measure the circumference of your dog’s neck. It’s important to ensure your measurement is snug and not too tight.  There should be room for you to slip two fingers between the dog’s neck and measuring tape.
